August 2017 Partner of the Month: Midlands Technical College

Midlands Technical College has been selected as the Columbia Chamber’s August Partner of the Month for their outstanding service not only to the Columbia region, but to the Columbia Chamber.
Since 1968, Midlands Tech has served the Columbia Chamber through various roles including direct involvement on the Chamber’s Board of Directors, numerous committees, support through sponsorship, and attendance at events. They also are great supporters of the Columbia Chamber’s Leadership Columbia program. According to Midlands Technical College, they value the role that Leadership Columbia plays in providing a motivated and impactful source of diverse leaders who are prepared and committed to serving their region. As such, the college has encouraged and supported employees who have participated in and gradated from Leadership Columbia. Their Alumni include Starnell Bates (1988), Mary Margaret Kendrick (1996), Andrea Freeman (2000), Todd Gavin (2007), Becky Garnett (2009), and Sallie Thomas (2015).
Midlands Technical College views their partnership with the Columbia Chamber as a critical component of the college’s ability to create an educational environment that meets the needs of the business community. To remain integrated and relevant in the workforce and economic development needs of the area, the College’s President and many members of their Executive Council attend at least two Columbia Chamber functions a month.
While truly an invaluable Partner to the Columbia Chamber, Midlands Technical College also serves the greater business community. Their first service being their dedication to using local companies. When soliciting bids for merchandise and services, preference is given to local, in-state, and diverse companies when applicable. These include local marketing and merchandizing companies, utilities, printers, construction, security contractors, finance, banking, investment, information technology, manufacturers, distributors, and healthcare practitioners. In partnership with the Midlands Technical College Foundation, MTC’s Office of Philanthropy raises private financial support for academic student scholarships and programs, as well as scholarships for continuing education for workforce education classes. The college is routinely involved with the United Way of the Midlands, the American Red Cross, Harvest Hope, Heart Walk, and others. The college also hosts free treatment and educational events every year for children with asthma and dental needs.
Partners of the Columbia Chamber looking to find talent can utilize MTC’s Student Employment Services Departments by posting your job opportunities for students and graduates.
