Welcome to Columbia SC, where we are
Famously Hot and Suprisingly Cool! Columbia offers visitors Southern
hospitality with a variety of cultural opportunities; including a
nationally ranked Zoo, an active arts community, museums,
recreation, and university sports all within a college town atmosphere.
The arts community offers events for all tastes. Columbia is home to
Columbia’s Children’s Theater, Trustus and Workshop Theater all
offering a variety of theatrical performances. Live concerts can
also be viewed at small venues from Township Auditorium, the Koger
Center and Newberry Opera House to larger venues such as the
Colonial Life Arena. The Colonial Life Arena has attracted major acts to the
area.
Museums in the area include the South Carolina State Museum,
Columbia Museum of Art, EdVenture Children’s Museum, McKissik Museum
and several regional museums.
Recreation in the area varies from boating on Lake Murray, rafting the
Saluda, outdoor performances at the Three Rivers Greenway, and local
festivals. Columbia is home to the Five Points St. Patrick’s Day
festival which is known as one of the largest celebrations in the
Southeast drawing over 30,000 attendees. Columbia also offers over
100 local, regional and state parks.
The Columbia Blowfish is a new addition to the
Columbia sporting scene. The Blowfish team is a member of the
Coastal Plain League. The local universities and colleges offer
men’s and women’s sporting events throughout the year.
