(803) 256-5300
Providence Hospital NE • (803) 865-4500
Sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and a member of
their Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine Health System (CSA Health
System), Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals is known statewide for
its high quality, compassionate care. The not-for-profit organization is
licensed for 311 beds and is comprised of three facilities: Providence
Hospital, Providence Heart Institute and Providence Hospital Northeast.
Together, the faith-based hospitals employ more than 1,500 caring
professionals. Providence Hospital, located in downtown Columbia, is a
247-bed hospital founded by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Augustine.
The facility is best known for the expertise in cardiac care it provides
through Providence Heart Institute, which serves as a nationally
recognized referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment
of cardiovascular disease. Providence Hospital Northeast is a 64-bed
community hospital that includes a transitional care unit for newly
discharged patients who require skilled nursing and rehabilitative care.
Often referred to as South Carolina’s “heart hospital,” Providence
Heart Institute has more than 25 years of experience in providing the
best in cardiac care. Since the opening of the Heart Institute, its
physicians and staff have performed more cardiovascular procedures than
any medical team in the state. A recent $30 million expansion gives the
hospital the additional space and services needed to accommodate the
growing demands of the market. The Life Reach air medical transport
service is the first hospital based, medical helicopter program in South
Carolina. Since 1985, Life Reach has flown more than 10,000 missions and
continues this valuable service today, transporting patients not only to
Providence, but also to numerous other medical facilities all across our
state. Cardiovascular care, however, is only one center of excellence at
Providence. The physicians and staff also provide extraordinary care in
a variety of other fields, including general surgery, orthopedics,
internal medicine, ophthalmology, emergency medicine, nuclear medicine
and related diagnostic services, maternity care, rehabilitation
services, chronic wound treatment and occupational medicine.
Providence Hospital Northeast, a 64-bed community hospital located in
northeast Richland County, was established in 1999 and includes a
transitional care unit for patients who require skilled nursing and
rehabilitative care.
