The Greater Columbia area is comprised of six
counties; Richland, Lexington, Kershaw, Fairfield, Calhoun and
Newberry counties. The six county areas have a population of 600,000
and a total workforce of 460,000. Companies in the greater Columbia
area offer a rich diversity of employment opportunities. Major
employers in the area include state government, colleges and
universities, manufacturing, hospital systems and Fort Jackson the
largest initial entry-training center in the United States Army.
