Military Resources
Welcome to Columbia, South
Carolina!
The Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce hosts numerous programs and events each year that recognize the vital role that the military plays in our community. Among these are the Military Affairs Welcome Breakfasts, welcoming new commanders to Fort Jackson; the Permanent Party Receptions, which honor the staff and the families of those that have been permanently assigned to Fort Jackson; and the Military Appreciation Receptions, which welcomes the soldiers attending the Polygraph Institute, the Chaplain School and Soldier Support Institute. In addition the Chamber hosts quarterly tours of Fort Jackson.
The chamber also oversees the
Friends of Our Forces program. This collaborative effort among the Chamber and the Directorate of Morale, Welfare and Recreation at Fort Jackson
publishes the
Welcome
Guide for military personnel at Fort Jackson and the families of
the soldiers graduating from Basic Combat Training each week in an
effort to provide information about the Fort Jackson/Columbia area.
The guide will direct you where to find shopping areas, nightlife
and entertainment, restaurants, lodging, residential neighborhoods,
etc.
The Friends of Our Forces program also recognizes the importance of military retirees in the Midlands. As an added bonus to keep retired military active in our community, we feature job opportunities in the employment section of this web site Retirees can directly link to the major employers in the five counties that comprise the Midlands of South Carolina - Calhoun, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, and Richland.
