CDA Architects announces two LEED Accredited Professionals
CDA Architects is proud to announce that Anna Dis Sveinsbjornsdottir and Jill Dougan are now a LEED®-Accredited Professional, having earned their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Anna Dis has 5 years of design experience. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2002 from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC and joined CDA Architects in the fall of 2004. Anna Dis is well-versed with sustainable design, code review, corporate design, education/library design, and lighting design.
Jill has had 9 years of experience in design, construction documents, specifications, project management, construction administration and proposals. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering Technology from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston in 1999. Since then, Jill has worked for various firms throughout the Midlands before joining CDA Architects in April of 2008. Jill’s experiences have given her a strong sense of understanding in all aspects of the construction process from schematic design to completion.
LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) design is an environmentally-friendly method which incorporates design and construction practices that significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of buildings on the environment and occupants. The LEED® Green Building Rating System is organized into five environmental categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality. Sustainable buildings supported by LEED® are quickly becoming a demanded factor in today’s world of design. The LEED® system was developed and is administrated by the U.S. Green Building Council; it promotes and guides comprehensive and whole-building integrated design. |

Lexington Medical Center Welcomes New Board Member
he Lexington County Health Services District has appointed Ernest Rene Derrick to its board of directors. Mr. Derrick will join the 21-member board and serve a three-year term.
"Mr. Derrick will be a wonderful addition to the Board of Directors. He has valuable life experiences that he can rely on during his service on the board, and I know he genuinely cares about providing high-quality health services to the people in our community," says Thad Westbrook, chair of the Lexington Medical Center board of directors.
Mr. Derrick worked for SCANA for 28 years before his retirement. He served as SCANA’s land department manager, with Lake Murray management and in the Right-of-Way department. He is active in community and civic organizations such as the Lions Club and the Jamil Temple Shriners. Mr. Derrick is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
“I want to bring a heart center to Lexington Medical Center and help in any way I can to make that happen,” he says.
Mr. Derrick and his wife currently reside in Lexington, where he has lived for 40 years. They are members of Lake Murray Baptist Church. He has two sons and four grandchildren. |

Gail Carter promoted to Assistant VP/Market Executive for First Community Bank in Camden First Community Bank, a local community bank with eleven offices in the Midlands, is pleased to announce that Gail Carter has been promoted to Assistant Vice President/Market Executive serving Camden and the surrounding markets. Amy has most recently served as Marketing Production Manager at Edens & Avant where she was responsible for design and production of marketing materials, trade show graphics, and event planning. She brings with her more than 12 years of corporate marketing, agency, and freelance design experience.

VAN WHITEHEAD JOINS HAYNSWORTH SINKLER BOYD Former DHEC Attorney Now Based in Firm’s Florence Office
Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. is pleased to announce Evander M. E. (Van) Whitehead has joined the Firm’s Florence office. He will concentrate on environmental, regulatory and administrative law as well as probate matters.
Prior to joining the law firm, Whitehead was a Staff Attorney for the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control in Charleston, SC, for more than four years. In this position, he defended agency decisions in administrative and judicial review, pursued enforcement actions on behalf of the agency, and consulted with agency staff on environmental law matters. He regularly appeared before the SC Administrative Law Court and worked on many cases before the SC Court of Appeals.
Anne S. Ellefson, the law firm's Managing Director, said, "Van's experience at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Controls will be most useful to our clients. In addition to working closely with the Department’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, Van worked with the Department’s Office of Environmental Quality Control in a broad range of program areas throughout the State. In 2006, he was an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he presented lectures on environmental law in South Carolina. He was recognized by his alma mater in receiving the Compleat Lawyer Award from the USC School of Law in 2003.
A Florence native, Whitehead earned a J.D. from the University of South Carolina in 2003, where he was president of the Environmental Law Society and the Public Interest Law Society, Articles Editor of the SC Environmental Law Journal, and received the USC School of the Environment Award in 2003. Whitehead earned his B.S. at Davidson College in 1998. He served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Kaye Hearn on the SC Court of Appeals, and also clerked for the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control in Columbia.
Whitehead is admitted to the SC Bar, U. S. District Court, District of South Carolina, and 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. |
