2011 Annual Gala & Auction
More than 800 gathered at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention
Center for the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce’s 2011 Annual
Gala. Sponsored by BB&T, the event featured a silent auction, dinner
and awards program emceed by Rick Henry, sports director and anchor
for WIS TV. Ray Tanner, USC head baseball coach and Chamber
Ambassador of the Year, delivered the keynote address.

Tanner reflected on his journey wining back-to-back national
championships, “I will never tell you that I knew we would win a
national championship, or two, but I would never tell you that the
possibility did not exist. I always felt that maybe, somehow,
someday, someway, that it would all come together, and because of
you, our wonderful city, our great fans and so many great players it
did become a reality…and what a great place to celebrate.”
The Columbia Chamber also presented Greater Lexington Chamber of
Commerce President Randy Halfacre with an award for Regional
Cooperation. Halfacre, who is also mayor of the Town of Lexington,
was honored for his work in establishing the MIDSTATE Chambers
Coalition, which has brought together 19 chambers from 11 counties
in a unified advocacy body.
