Ever Wonder Why Those International Flags Fly at the Chamber? The Committee of 100, an affiliate of the Central SC Alliance started displaying the national flags representing foreign owned companies doing business in the Riverbanks Region. The flags were erected along the Laurel Street end of the Chamber parking lot overlooking Finley Park as a way to make Columbians more aware of these companies operating here. Usually the business being represented was glad to sponsor their country’s flag to help with the expenses, but other sponsors were also found. The Committee of 100 was responsible for the flags until they moved from the Chamber building in 2004. Since then the Chamber has maintained the flags. This past year the flags were badly in need of replacement and more sponsors were sought. Special thanks to the following: Canada-Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, PC Sponsorships are still available for the flags representing: Australia, Italy, The United State of America, Japan, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, South Carolina, & South Korea for only $250 per year. This sponsorship would allow the Chamber to replace the flags twice during the year to ensure they remain in good condition.
