Media celebrities compete in annual quiz
competition on behalf of their favorite charities
A duo from WMHK-FM held off seven other
media teams in the final inning to win the 9th annual
Colonial Life Challenge for Charity for a third straight year. The
victory by Steve Sunshine and Michelle Renew earned a $3,500 donation to
Friends of the Department of Juvenile Justice from Colonial Life in
WMHK’s honor.
The annual quiz show event pits teams of
local media celebrities and charity representatives against each other
in a battle of wits to earn donations to their favorite charities. WOLO-TV,
represented by Alicia Barnes and Daniel Seamans, captured second place
and a $2,000 donation for Project Pet. WLTX-TV’s Sydney Cummins and
Lewis Turner finished third and earned a $1,000 donation for Girls on
the Run.
Other media celebrities participating in the
event included Dawndy Mercer Plank from WIS-TV, partnering with Craig
Plank on behalf of the Oliver Gospel Mission Women’s Growth Center;
MidlandsBiz’s Alan Cooper, playing for the Central Carolina Community
Foundation with an assist from JoAnn Turnquist; WVOC-AM’s Christopher
Thompson alongside Sue Maner of Special Olympics South Carolina; The
State Newspaper’s Otis Taylor with teammate Brian Conner playing for the
Christopher Conner Foundation; and WACH-TV’s Ashley Norris along with
Corey Beasley on behalf of the South Carolina Autism Society.
