The
Renaissance Foundation Kicks Off its 1921
Campaign
The Renaissance Foundation kicks off its
1921 Campaign. The Foundation is
offering the public a unique opportunity to
create a legacy by giving a gift that will
outlast your lifetime. Your contribution
starting at $19.21 will save a South
Carolina Treasure designed by John Anderson
Lanksford the first African American
architect in United States. The names of
all of contributors will be permanently
listed in the museum records at The
Renaissance Cultural Arts Center at Historic
Bethel, a National Heritage Tourist Site.
The goal is to reach 100,000 contributors.
The historical significance of the 1921
Campaign correlates with the year the
Church was built. The funds will be used
to restore and transform Historic Bethel
into a Cultural Arts Center that will house
a performing arts venue, museum and art
gallery.
Across America, cities that once struggled
economically are reinventing and rebuilding
themselves by investing in arts and
cultural. Both are proven catalysts for
growth and economic prosperity. By creating
cultural hubs, nonprofit and art businesses
help cities define themselves, draw
tourists, and attract investment. The
Cultural Arts Center will have a tremendous
economic impact on the City of Columbia and
throughout the Midlands.
Currently, there is no facility of this size
that will accommodate the needs of the
diverse artistic cultural in the City of
Columbia. It is the intent of the
Renaissance Cultural Arts Center to bridge a
partnership with the arts community, public
and private sector to promote the diversity
needed to attract residents as well as
visitors to the downtown area, which is
absent from the cultural landscape
Historic Bethel is centrally is located in
one of the state’s eight tourist destination
in South Carolina, and perfectly suited to
attract tourist. It is on the National
Historic Register and a National Heritage
Tourist Site. Heritage Tourism is, without
question a driving force for tourism.
